Is the plumber Gas Safe registered and insured?
The short answer
Yes. The plumber is fully insured, and Gas Safe registered for any work involving gas or your boiler — which is a legal requirement in the UK. You're welcome to ask to see the registration card and insurance before work starts.
By law, anyone who works on a gas appliance in the UK — a boiler, a gas fire, a gas hob — must be on the Gas Safe Register. It replaced CORGI in 2009, and it's the only gas registration body recognised in Great Britain.
Our plumber is registered, and we check that the registration and the public liability insurance are still current rather than taking it on trust once and forgetting about it.
You can check any engineer yourself. Ask for their Gas Safe ID card when they arrive, and verify the licence number on the Gas Safe Register website. A good plumber will hand it over without being asked twice — and won't take offence at the question.
- Gas Safe registered for boiler, gas and heating work
- Public liability insurance, kept current
- Happy to show the ID card on the doorstep
